Mike Cheesman is an Englishman who left his home in Godalming, Surrey, to come to America in 1979. His guitar style as well as his easy relaxed delivery has endeared him to audiences wherever he performs – a skill honed throughout England’s pubs and folk clubs, starting in the 1960’s.
Upon coming to America, Mike performed in Chicago which included a singing of the National Anthem at a Cubs game — before eventually settling in Peoria, Illinois, marrying and raising a family.
More recently, Mike and his family opened an English-themed pub; The Fox Pub and Cafe (TheFoxPubandCafe.com) on Sommer Street in Peoria, where Mike has performed regularly for the past four years. Although now passed on to his son, Matt and his wife, Cortney, the pub continues to be a haven for English food and Mike’s second love, English football (soccer).
Mike has a passion for history and storytelling, and his songs encompass many music genres including pop, folk, and country. His overall the style is “easy listening”. Mike’s latest project is a tribute CD commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Great War. In collaboration with musicians and good friends, Bruce Burton and Shannan Sullivan, the show was first performed on June 14,2014 [see Testimonials page]. Mike’s CD “The Soul of a Soldier” is available on Amazon and iTunes. Search ‘Mike Cheesman Live” on YouTube!!
